How 300 salons turned missed calls into £270,000 of bookings

By AXIS Consult · 2 min read · Real story, sourced below

A hair salon misses one in five calls. That number comes straight from SalonIQ's industry research, and it means empty chairs: stylists standing ready while callers who can't get through book somewhere else.

In December 2025, SalonIQ gave more than 300 UK salons a different answer: IQ Connect, an AI receptionist that picks up every call, answers client questions, and books appointments automatically. Salon teams stopped splitting their attention between ringing phones and clients in chairs.

Six months later, the numbers tell the story. The AI agent handled over 34,251 calls in 2026 alone — nearly 7,900 a month and still climbing. It resolves 74% of calls on its own, hands the rest cleanly to a staff member, and saves salons roughly six hours of phone time a month.

The bookings line is the one that matters. Those answered calls turned into over £270,000 of bookings in 2026, with SalonIQ reporting an average ROI of 9.4x for the salons using it. Demand says the same thing: 120 salons signed up for priority onboarding within two days of the launch webinar.

"Knowing that 1 in 5 calls are missed across the hair and beauty industry, we wanted to create something that would improve call handling whilst allowing salon staff to deal with customers face to face," says SalonIQ CEO Sam Kendall.

We see the same leak in local businesses here: the phone rings during the rush, nobody picks up, and the customer books with whoever answers. At AXIS, we build exactly this kind of AI — one that answers, books, and reports back to you in plain English every morning.
