Andrea Palacio and her husband wanted passive income, so they bought a South Florida landscaping company for $470,000. Within days, the seller had vanished, ten of the twelve employees quit, and monthly revenue fell from $70,000 to $40,000. With personal assets pledged as collateral on an SBA loan, Palacio took over bookings, marketing, admin, and customer service herself, working 80-hour weeks. She clawed revenue back to $60,000 a month, but the business was eating her life.
Then her sister mentioned ChatGPT. The tech-curious Palacio started experimenting, hired a freelancer to build AI customer-relationship software, and built an AI receptionist herself. It forwards a call to her when a caller is upset, and it books estimates on the calendar automatically. She says the automations saved her 20 hours a month.
By December 2024 the company was running so well that a buyer offered $750,000, a 60 percent premium over what the couple had paid. They said no. Instead of cashing out, Palacio pushed the automation further: a dashboard that tracks crew efficiency, how long each job takes, and salaries compared against what clients pay.
“AI just changed everything for me,” she told Inc. In June of this year, the company posted $75,000 in monthly revenue with seven employees. Her husband now stops by the office just one day a week to handle sales appointments. Palacio even launched a new company, Crewless, to help other owners run AI-first ventures.
We tell owners the same thing every week: you probably do not need more people, you need fewer repetitive jobs. Answering every call, booking every estimate, watching every crew number. These are systems jobs, and systems are exactly what we install. If your own weeks still look like 80-hour weeks, book a free 15-minute walkthrough and we will show you what AI could take off your plate first.
